VANDALIA — They say blondes have more fun. Wednesday, Butler showed they score more runs, too.
With postseason baseball officially underway, the Aviators showed up bleached, boisterous, and brutally efficient — blasting Trotwood-Madison 29–0 in a cold, windy, rain-speckled sectional that looked more like a highlight reel than a baseball game.
Butler scored seven in the first, 14 in the second, and eight more in the third — piling up 24 hits and striking out 14 in just four and a half innings. If there was any hope for the Rams, it got buried early under a flurry of barrels and baserunners.
Hunter Richardson (7–0) didn’t just set the tone — he owned the stage. The senior lefty struck out nine over three no-hit innings, then went 4-for-4 at the plate with two triples, two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored. He looked every bit the part of a tournament ace — electric on the mound, dangerous in the box.
Jackson Schilling added three hits and two RBIs. Tate Richardson went 2-for-2, drove in three, and reached base all three times. Davis Ketterer and Declan Scheffler each plated three as well.
Paxton Dwenger reached base three times, scored three, and stole a bag. Russell Stratman doubled and tripled. Carson Heis and Coby Holland chipped in RBI singles.
Lamar Taynor roped a pair of doubles and crossed the plate four times. Mason Reckner doubled, walked, and scored twice as the Aviators ran wild on the basepaths and never let up.
Eli Davis cruised through the fourth in relief with two strikeouts. Carson Perry came on in the fifth and struck out the side to slam the door shut.
The game was short. The statement wasn’t.
The road to Akron is long, and the stakes get higher from here. But on a raw, gray afternoon,
Butler (24–2) looked every bit the part of a team built for the run ahead.
Blondes, baseball, and a blowout win to open the postseason. So far, so good.
