Aviators Rally To Stun Prestonsburg 9-4

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Down to their final out, and trailing 4-2 - things looked bleak for the Aviators. Down but not out, Butler (3-0) rallied late, scoring seven unanswered runs to stun Prestonsburg (KY) 9-4.

Freshman first baseman Hunter Richardson doubled to advance Cayden Borchers to third base, putting two on. Jayden Watkins then hit a sharp grounder, forcing a two-run error to knot the game at 4-4.

Cason Bennett then doubled, to score Watkins for the 5-4 lead and the onslaught was officially on.

A few batters later, Joe Mendy added the exclamation point with an inside the park, homerun to swell the Butler lead to 8-4.

Mendy finished with three RBI, while Gage Harestad finished the game with two.

Bennett earned the win for Butler, coming in for relief of starter Alex James to finish the final 2 2/3 innings. Bennett notched seven strikeouts and allowed just one hit, while James struck out three and allowed just three hits.

The red hot Aviators look to close out the Myrtle Beach road trip a perfect 4-0, as they face Russell County in the second game of the night.
