VANDALIA - Butler (5-1, 2-0) kept rolling Wednesday afternoon, with a 10-0 run-rule win over visiting Greenville in six innings of play.
Freshman southpaw Hunter Richardson (2-0) earned the win for the Aviators, striking out seven and allowing just one hit through four innings of work.
Richardson was relieved by Cason Bennett who pitched 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. Alex James came on an slammed the door shut pitching the final 2/3 innings with back-to-back punch outs in the sixth inning to get Butler out of a bases loaded jam.
Joe Mendy had himself another day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Richardson and Bennett (1 RBI) finished 2-for-3 from the batters box.
The Aviators and Greenwave will face-off again Friday in Greenville for the series finale at 5:00 pm.
