Butler Propels Past Sidney 12-2

Updated: Apr 11

SIDNEY — Hunter Richardson delivered a perfect day at the plate and set the tone on the mound as Butler rolled to a 12–2 win over Sidney on Friday at Sidney High School.

The left-hander went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single, and tossed two innings to open the game, allowing three hits and two unearned runs while striking out five without a walk. Davis Ketterer (2-0) took over from there and earned the win, dominating in relief with three no-hit innings, striking out five and walking none to seal the run-rule victory.

Butler jumped ahead early, scoring in the first on a bases-loaded walk by Mason Reckner. Sidney responded in the bottom half, briefly taking a 2–1 lead on a two-RBI single from Brooks Taylor.

That edge was short-lived.

The Aviators exploded for six runs in the second inning, stringing together five hits—including a two-run single from Jackson Schilling—to take control. They tacked on two more in the third behind an RBI single from Koby Dues and a sacrifice fly by Reckner.

Butler’s offense finished with nine hits and showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks. Brody Miller earned two of them and was one of several Aviators aggressive on the basepaths—Butler racked up 10 stolen bases, with Miller and Max Rubins swiping multiple bags each.

Schilling anchored a flawless defensive effort, recording nine chances as Butler played error-free baseball.

Sidney managed just three hits—one apiece from Ethan New, Ashton Rose, and Taylor. Taylor also drove in both of Sidney’s runs.

With the win, Butler (6-0,2-0) now turns its attention to a marquee showdown with Springboro (5-1,2-0) in the nightcap of the Prep Baseball Report Classic. First pitch is set for 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Butler High School.

The event is loaded with talent—each of the eight teams in the day’s slate ranks in the top 15 of their respective divisions, setting the stage for a high-caliber clash to close out one of the premier prep baseball showcases in the state.
