VANDALIA — Hunter Richardson (2-0) delivered another stellar performance on the mound Monday evening, striking out 11 over six scoreless innings as Butler opened Miami Valley League play with a 4-0 win over Greenville.
The senior left-hander scattered three hits, allowed no walks, and kept the Green Wave off balance from start to finish. The win lifts Butler to 5-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in the MVL.
As they have all season, the Aviators pounced early.
Sophomore catcher Jackson Schilling drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning. The purple and gold added another in the third following a Greenville error and tacked on two more in the fourth to build a comfortable lead.
Senior Brody Miller led Butler at the plate, going 2-for-3 from the eight spot in the order. Schilling, sophomore Koby Dues, and junior Aiden White each collected an RBI.
In relief, junior Davis Ketterer pitched a clean seventh inning to close things out, striking out one while keeping the Green Wave runners off the basepaths.
Butler again played error-free baseball in the field and turned a key double play.
Greenville starter Cole Oswalt went four innings, allowing four runs — while striking out two and walking three. Charlie Jasenski, Braeden Wills, and Isaac Kerg each recorded a hit for the Green Wave, who dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-2.
Butler (5-0, 1-0) returns to action Wednesday against Sidney (1-3, 1-1) at home, with first pitch set for 5:00 pm ET.
